April 16, 2020 Studies suggests the performance of individuals in the Indian education system and hence it is necessary to compare the performance between different groups of students to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the system and to evaluate the effect of various factors on the performance of students. The students taking admission in various higher education courses have different characteristics such as socio-economic background, religion, sex, district and much more. Hence it is important to collect information from different parts of the society to form a complete picture of the higher education environment. For this purpose the National Sample Survey Organisation has developed a survey called – Higher Education Survey (HES). This survey covers a range of information for all higher education institutions in the country. There are several reports published by the HES on different aspects of higher education. While developing the methodology of HES, the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) has designed a questionnaire to collect information from students which is referred to as – Higher Education Questionnaire (HEQ). This questionnaire is used to assess the student experience with the Higher Education Institution (HEI) in terms of learning, teaching and outcomes. The HES-HEQ has been designed to collect data on the following aspects: Course and time taken Academic performance Access to and satisfaction with learning Access to and satisfaction with teaching Academic and non-academic outcomes Student experiences with HEIs HEQ has been published in the year 2003, 2009 and 2014 (to be specific). This survey provides a platform to evaluate the Higher Education System in the country. Hence it is important to analyse the data from the HEQ to understand the levels of satisfaction of the students with the available educational infrastructure. The data collected from the questionnaire is further analysed by the HES to interpret the results and to recommend appropriate action. However, the HEQ questionnaire is very challenging and can be a tedious task for any individual. Hence, the NSSO has also developed an extensive collection of information called as HES-Thematic File that aims to provide answers to some of the frequently asked questions (FAQs) on the HEQ. The HES-Thematic File includes the answer to a wide range of questions on many aspects of the Higher Education System. NSSO also conducts the National Policy and Implementation Survey (NPIS) that aims to assess the changes in the Higher be359ba680
